2010 Rookie Roundup

2010 Rookie Roundup

A big part of winning Fantasy baseball is being able to beat the others managers to the punch.  You must be able to let go of the old, and be the first to grab the new.   Rookies are some of the most hyped up players in Fantasy, but let’s face it.  Today’s Rookies are tomorrow’s All-Stars.  One word of advice…be very careful with Rookie Pitchers as a couple of Horrible outings in the pitching categories can leave you in an ERA and WHIP hold that will be very difficult to dig out off.

  1. Jason Heyward-  OF  ATL Braves

Everyone knew he was going to be good, but Heyward is already a Star.  He has hits in six of his last 7 games with game tying homers, and crucial base hits.  If your league is oblivious enough to have him on the wavier wire…GET HIM NOW!

  1. Austin Jackson- OF  Tigers

While Heyward has taken the lime light, Jackson has been very productive himself.  He is the everyday starting center fielder with great speed.  He is batting .328 on the season with 3 SB and 10 Runs scored…Deeper mixed leagues should act Now.

  1. Stephen Strasburg- SP Nationals

He continues to dominate in the minors posting a .73 ERA and 17 k’s in 12 innings.  The Nationals can’t wait too long to bring up this phenom…my guess is early June.

  1. Brian Matusz-SP Orioles

Like Strasburg he plays for a Bad team, however Brian has clearly been the Orioles ACE so far this season and is actually pitching better then his Great stats show.  He is leading the American league in K’s with 23.  Keeper leagues should try and pry this kid away from it’s owner now.

  1. Pedro Alvarez- 3B Pirates

Andy Laroche watch out.  The kid has legit power and is tearing the cover off the ball at Triple A.  He is one of the top 3B prospects in the game and should be called up by Mid season.

  1. Ian Desmond- SS Nationals

Desmond is a great prospect at the very shallow SS position.  He posses good speed and power and could easily be a 15-15 player.  He will be a streaky player but should be owned in all mixed leagues with MI eligibility.

  1. Logan Morrison- 1B Marlins

Morrison is Red Hot in the minors and his pushing for the starting job down in the panhandle.  He has a great eye and power and should be on every keeper leagues radar.

  1. Aroldis Chapman- SP Cin

The Kid throws smoke and has an electric fastball.  However like most young flamethrowers his command is very shaky.  He will probably stay down in the minors to work on his control, however he will most likely come up some time around July.

  1. Justin Smoak- 1B Texas

The Rangers are growing more impatient with every Chris Daivs Whiff, and Smoak is knocking at the door.  If Davis doesn’t start hitting soon, the two could easily trade places.  Smoak has college and Triple AAA experience so could come out the gates swinging.  The Power and Batting eye are both there.

  1. Buster Posey- C Giants

One of the Top C prospects in the game is off to a great start in the minors.  He probably wont get called up immediately as Veteran Catcher Bengie Molina is doing well and San Fran would love the veteran signal caller to help out their young dominant pitching staff.
