Last week has started off bad, but the tail end of the previous week starts has brought my ERA down from 3.97 to 3.60.  This included a near no hitter form Anibal Sanchez and a sout by James McDonald.  Jake Arrieta did well, and Joe Blanton took away Vance Worley’s opportunities.  The veterans didn’t do well, and Vazquez looks awful.  If you still have him on your team, it’s time to drop him.

Now onto the next week….

Studs

1.  Felix Hernandez (MIN, @SD) – Felix faces the struggling Twins, and recently hot Padres, but Felix in Petco, he has a large margin for error(ERA: 3.36, WHIP: 1.18)

2.  Tim Lincecum (@COL,OAK) – Rain pushed back his Sunday start, so he’s on the list again… he faces Rockies and Interleague A’s. (ERA:  2.11, WHIP: 1.03)

3.  Josh Johnson (@NYM, TB) – He leads in ERA, and he’s been dominating hitters left/right; although Marlins O has only got him 3 Ws so far. (ERA:  1.63, WHIP: .90)

4.  Daniel Hudson (SD, MIN) – Daniel Hudson handled the Padres on the road last week, he should do so again, and the control the hapless Twins. (ERA: 4.41, WHIP: 1.29)

5.  Shaun Marcum (@LAD, COL) –  He quietly has a 2.72 ERA and that’s after Padres lit him up last week.  He’s another example of AL-NL stat boost. (ERA: 2.72, WHIP: 1.09)

Sleepers

1.  Jason Vargas (MIN, @SD) – Like Felix at the top, Vargas comes into this position pitching well and pitching in favorable matchups. (ERA: 3.86, WHIP 1.25)

2.  Tim Stauffer (@ARI, SEA) – The Padres have been playing better, and maybe he’ll get some run support in 2 winnable games. (ERA: 3.47, WHIP: 1.26)

3.  Scott Baker (@SEA, @ARI) – The always under-appreciated Scott Baker.  2 possible wins this week could do well for a spot start on your team.  (ERA: 3.71, WHIP: 1.28)

4.  Joel Piniero (@OAK, ATL) – He started off on the DL, so grab him before people realize he’s back to form and pitching well. (ERA: 1.33, 1.03)

5.  Rick Porcello (TOR, @PIT) – The young gun continues to improve, and he’s a groundball pitcher who’s K/9 rate is rising (ERA: 3.67, WHIP: 1.39)
